Hot Tickets

In Concerts on July 22, 2011 at 12:01 AM

We don’t really see any cultural events going on this weekend in some of our favorite cities and we’ve gotten feedback that we should highlight some upcoming events that may require advanced tickets.

Of course this list is by no means exhaustive but highlights a few upcoming events in Atlanta that we think would be a good show.  We’ll put a few editions of this out every now and then and help you not to miss the next great event.

All events are listed under the venue and the venue’s website where you can read information and purchase tickets.

Hot tickets!  That’s What’s Up!

***July 22

This is a free event brought to you by Majic 107.5/97.5.  With her smooth, unique sound, this should be a nice event to here live music in a grown and sexy atmosphere!

GEORGIA INTERNATIONAL HORSE PARK  (1996 Centennial Olympic Park, Conyers, GA)

Never been to this venue but if you want to see this group, this is where you’ll go

***September 3

Men of Soul & En Vogue

The 100 Black Men of Dekalb County, Inc. presents Men of Soul (Freddie Jackson, Peabo Bryson & Jefferey Osborn) & En Vogue.  It’s a 80s/90s reunion!  For tickets call 404-243-1044 or visit the website.

We enjoy events at the Fox.  Every seat is good and although you are inside, it almost feels like an amphitheater with the décor.

***July 30

Robin Thicke w/Kelly Rowland & Jermih

This is a one night only event and probably right as Robin isn’t much of a performer.  We’ve never heard Kelly live but maybe she’ll redeem herself from the BET Awards.  (Hey, as long as she rocks that hat, maybe it won’t matter)

***September 14-October 9

Haven’t seen it but was told not to miss it.  Was also told it was a good show to take the kids, particularly little girls.  Read the reviews before you drop the dollars though.  You know your kids and whether they will sit or whether they need a sitter while you go to enjoy.

***October 30

Yo Gabba Gabba Live!

So if you ditched them to see Wicked, this show is guaranteed to be for them.  And, who doesn’t love a little Biz Markie at whatever age?

If you have never seen a concert at Chastain, you are definitely missing a wonderful outdoor venue.  Buy a table for the show, grab your favorite food and drinks to bring in and enjoy while you watch your favorite artist.  Don’t forget your tablecloth and candles!  You are sure to have fun times!

***August 19 & 20

Jill Scott’s Summer Block Party with Anthony Hamilton & Mint Condition with Doug E. Fresh & DJ Jazzy Jeff

Live your life like it’s Golden!  Jill Scott always turns it out and I’m sure she won’t disappoint for this show.  And, who can resist Doug E. Fresh? This will be our first time seeing Anthony Hamilton and “pretty brown eyes” Mint Condition but we’ve got our tickets.  Go get yours now!

***September 3

Isley Brothers

Classic group with the best of the past and present.  This should be a good show with Mr. I.

***September 9

Kem w/Kelly Price

Smooth and sultry Kem should surely give you that Chastain “feel”.  And, with Kelly Price, you should be in for a treat.

***September 23

Earth, Wind & Fire

Need we say more?  These are indeed the three essential elements to a live music concert.  The fact that it’s in Chastain just makes it that much better.  We saw them here a couple of years ago and if we could bottle up the funk and energy of Verdine White, we would in hopes of moving like that when we get close to our 50s.  Heck, we’d drink it just to move like that now! This show is a must see!

We also like this amphitheatre as it’s slightly more intimate than Chastain and brings a lot of great jazz musicians at great prices.  This is probably more of a traditional amphitheatre set up as the lower section is covered and then the lawn is in an open area.  We actually like the lawn here, bringing some finger foods, wine and curling up on a blanket to the sounds of live instruments.  A great romantic venue without a lot of fuss.

***September 17

2011 Jazz Grooves Atlanta Smooth Music Festival

Featuring Fattburger, Nick Colionne, Jackiem Joyner, Steve Oliver, and local saxophonist Jeff Sparks.  Show starts at 1:30 pm. The gate will open at 12:30 pm.

We’ve never ventured to this amphitheater but we hear it’s pretty good.

***August 13

Flashback Festival 2011

Kiss 104.1 brings back Atlanta’s biggest Old School R&B Concert for it’s 16th Annual Flashback Festival.  Not sure who the artists are as of yet but we do see a picture of Keith Sweat on one of the ticket venue sites.  We can hear him whining out the hits now.  Oooohh, all I know is…I wanna…..(LOL!)
